Demonologist: How to Survive – Beginner’s Tips

Beginner’s Guide to Demonologist: Getting Started

So, you’ve decided to embark on your journey as a Demonologist, delving into the supernatural world to uncover mysteries and confront malevolent entities. Before we dive into the intricacies of advanced techniques and strategies, let’s begin with the fundamentals. In this section, we’ll guide you on how to get started with the game and ensure you’re familiar with the basic controls that will help you navigate the spooky realms effectively.

How to Use the Controls

To effectively navigate the game, it’s essential to understand the key controls. Your Journal (accessible with ‘J’) is a crucial tool for managing your Evidence List. As you employ various Tools to identify and interact with entities, you’ll need to keep track of your findings. To do this, you can either check off witnessed items or mark them as absent on the list. Simply left-click on a checkbox to tick it or double-click on an item to cross it out. As you progress through the list, any entity types on the left will fade, indicating that they aren’t currently relevant in the game. When you believe you’ve identified the correct entity type, double-click on its name and select ‘Confirm’ to lock in your choice. Keep in mind that this decision is final and cannot be altered once confirmed.

Most Tools activate immediately when equipped. However, certain items like the Spirit Box and Ecto Glass require you to bring them closer to your character by using the left-click button.

Beginner’s Guide to Demonologist: Pro Tips

Now that you’ve got a grasp of the basic controls, it’s time to take your Demonologist skills to the next level. In this section, we’ll share some invaluable pro tips that will help you become a more formidable investigator. From optimizing your equipment loadout to fine-tuning your investigative techniques, these tips will give you the edge you need to tackle even the most challenging cases with confidence. So, let’s delve into the world of advanced strategies and become a true master of the paranormal arts.

At the time of Demonologist’s release, there are three available Maps: Abandoned House, Hospital, and Cyclone Street. Accessing these Maps, however, requires leveling up, a progression achieved by consistently accurately guessing entity types during your gameplay. To unlock the next Map, you must repeatedly guess the correct entity types and advance through the ranks. For instance, the Hospital Map becomes available to players once they reach Level 10. You can track your progress via the top-left bar on your Loadout Screen. Additionally, completing main and bonus objectives during a match earns you experience points, further contributing to your progression.

When you enter a Map, monitor your sanity bar located inside the HQ to assess your proximity to a Hunt. Maintaining high sanity is crucial, so stay within well-lit areas. To kickstart your investigation, locate the Entity Room, where most paranormal activity occurs.

The Abandoned House features two floors to explore, offering a relatively easier experience as you become familiar with its layout. On the other hand, the Hospital, with its three floors, including a Morgue in the Basement, presents a darker and more challenging atmosphere than the Abandoned House. You may need items like Candles to preserve your sanity as you navigate the Hospital’s eerie corridors. Expect more intense scares in the Hospital compared to the Abandoned House, and be prepared for a longer investigation due to its larger size.

How to Use the Tools to Gain Evidence

A fundamental aspect of surviving as a demonologist is effectively utilizing your tools to gather evidence. The tools at your disposal are your lifeline in the battle against the supernatural. In this section, we’ll delve into the intricacies of using these tools to uncover evidence, identify entities, and make progress in your paranormal investigations. From EMF detectors to Spirit Boxes, we’ll explore their functions and best practices for maximizing their effectiveness. With the right tools and the know-how to use them, you’ll be better prepared to confront the unknown and ensure your survival in the world of demonology.

  • EMF Detector – This device is perfect for locating the Entity Room. It measures paranormal activity on a scale of 0-5 using an archaic cockroach icon. A high meter reading indicates the presence of an entity. You can also place the Detector inside the Entity Room to record your findings via the HQ.
  • Ectoplasma Glass – Hold this glass up to your eyes and click the left-mouse button to search for visual signs of the entity. Look for white plasma resembling glowing paintbrush strokes, typically found on walls.
  • Easel Canvas – Place this inside the Entity Room. Some entities may interact with the canvas and paint their masterpieces on it, providing valuable evidence for your investigation.
  • ESG Device – This device is challenging to use because entities can appear and disappear quickly. Put it inside the Entity Room and watch for a visual reading of the entity, captured in a single shot that vanishes rapidly. Consider staying in the room or setting up a Tripod Camera to review any findings.
  • UV Flashlight – Use this flashlight to find fingerprints on surfaces. Look for fingerprints that appear as handprints, making them easier to identify.
  • Spirit Box – Start your investigation by using the Spirit Box. Speak to the entity using the left-mouse button, and if the entity can respond, a red light will appear on the demon figure at the top-right of the box, indicating communication. This tool should be your initial choice as you enter the haunted premises.

We strongly advise a specific order of tool usage when entering a haunted area. Begin with the Spirit Box, followed by the EMF Detector and the Ectoplasma Glass. This sequence is highly effective for a smooth investigation.

How to Survive in Demonologist: Beginner’s Guide

As you spend more time within the Entity’s Room, which you’ve located using your Tools, you’ll notice that prolonged exposure to the entity can gradually drain your sanity. Once your sanity reaches zero, the Hunt commences, with the entity turning hostile and launching attacks against you. When faced with a Hunt, you have two choices: hide within the haunted location or equip a Crucifix, an item available for purchase in the Shop and added to your Loadout. It’s important to have the Crucifix in your hand at the start of the Hunt to ensure your survival if you’re attacked. However, your primary survival strategy should be to hide from the aggressive entity.

Ideally, you should never allow your sanity to reach zero, which means you won’t need to rely on the Crucifix. If you do find it necessary to use the Crucifix, keep in mind that it has a one-time use. If it saves you from an encounter, the Crucifix will be depleted, and you’ll need to purchase another. To avoid this situation, be cautious about spending excessive time within the Entity Room. The entity can manipulate your surroundings, including the lights. Therefore, leave when you notice changes in your environment or use Candles to maintain your sanity. In maps like the Abandoned House, it’s advisable to activate lights whenever possible.

Remember that the ultimate objective of the game is to determine the entity’s type. As such, you should avoid provoking the entity or seeking direct confrontation. Instead, employ the Spirit Box and EMF Detector to locate the Entity’s Room and gather the necessary evidence for your Journal without unnecessarily aggravating the entity.
